Why hire a professional copywriter?

You probably know how to draw – at least stick figures – and you might be able to provide a rough sketch of what you’d like your logo to look like. But, of course, you’d hire a professional graphic designer to work on your collateral, because it’s a direct reflection of your brand, and stick figures just won’t do it justice.

The same goes for writing. Daily communication is one thing, but when it comes to preparing your brand and your strategy for success, you need a skilled professional to give you a competitive advantage through thoughtfully crafted messaging.

The bottom line? Don’t leave the words to chance. Even if you have a great designer, content that falls short is like having a great book cover with a lot of blank pages inside.

A Copywriting Blog

I’ve been meaning to blog about copywriting for quite a while. But, I’ve been too busy copywriting lately to write about writing. Sunday morning, however, finds me flipping channels between E! and a couple of boring NFL games – and thus, the time to post to my newest blog, “Can’t Find the Words?” is found.

As with all blogs, this blog is a work in progress. I’m not entirely sure where it will lead, but I would like for it to perform a number of functions. My primary purpose is to support copywriting in general. There are lots of reasons to hire a professional when in need of words, and I hope to provide several convincing arguments for working with a qualified writer.

Of course, I also hope to demonstrate why I am that qualified writer, which is goal number two – a little shameless self-promotion. But, the idea is that my words will speak for themselves. No cheesy call-outs or ridiculous promises, just quality writing.

Eventually, I would like for this to evolve into a resource for all things copy for anyone interested, be they fellow copywriters or prospective clients. In short, if I can share some information about what I do and how I do it, in the hopes that someone else will find it useful, that is the goal.

I am totally indebted to all the creative talent who have inspired me and shown me the way – now, it’s my turn to pass along what little I can.
